Empowering Zambians in the New England Area
The Zambian Association of New England (ZANE) marked 7 years of its existence with a celebratory TiliPamodzi Dinner held Saturday, July 12th, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza in Woburn, MA.
The TiliPamodzi Dinner is an annual fundraising formal dinner that brings together ZANE’s partners, friends & the ZANE community . The ZANE community showed up in huge support from states such as Maine, New York & of course ZANE’s home base Massachusetts.
A rousing rendition of Zambia’s national anthem led by songbird Mrs. Anniya Mvula-Lawrence of Beyond Blue fame opened the night. Entertainment of the night included another song by Mrs. Lawrence, a ‘Togetherness’ song by Mr. Faith Kaliba, and an African interpretative dance by Zambian contemporary dancer, Ms. Violet Kabaso. A TiliPamodzi Dinner raffle was also held with various prizes. Mr. Madaliso Kapopo walked away with the main prize of a Tablet.
In his speech, ZANE President Mr. Kwanga Kaweza, thanked the community for the love, unity and togetherness they have shown over the years. He chronicled ZANE’s history from what was an idea to a vibrant community nonprofit organization that ‘Empowers Zambians & Friends of Zambia through its programs and initiatives.’
ZANE’s Vision of the next 7 years – Vision 2021 or V-21 was also unveiled. This vision details acquisition of a ZANE Headquarters Building that would serve as a community hall and include an ‘Education Center for the Zambian Arts and Heritage.
ZANE Community Service in Excellence Awards were presented to Mrs. Dorothy Banda Harrison and Reverends. Cornelius & Margaret Masuwa for their exceptional selfless contributions to the ZANE community.
