Empowering Zambians in the New England Area

Spirit of togetherness as New England based Zambians celebrate 49 years of Zambia’s Independence

Zambians in New England celebrated Zambia’s 49th Independence Day at ZANE’s first-ever Independence Luncheon which was held this past Saturday, October 26th, 2013.

After an opening statement by ZANE President- Mr. Kwanga Kaweza, an Independence prayer was given by Mrs. Sharine Chikwanda- ZANE Co-Spiritual Advisor. The merry crowd marked the day by singing Zambia’s National Anthem; with Mr. Faith Kaliba leading the anthem on the piano~ a truly patriotic moment. A  ‘Vote of Thanks’ by ZANE Co-Spiritual Advisor- Mr. Mubanga Phiri, went out to all who assisted in making the event successful. This included the Mwawus, who provided the free club house venue. “We thank you all & may The Lord bless you indeed,” concluded Mr. Phiri. It was specially noted that next year’s 50TH Independence [Golden Jubilee] will be held at the usual night time.

While reminiscing on the ties that unite them as Zambians, the crowd enjoyed delicious traditional Zambian cuisine prepared by ZANE’s Women’s committee. In the end, songbird Milda Brown entertained with a medley of Gospel music.

Fun, fellowship & togetherness were truly exemplified.
